where it all begins
G&Tea starts with a personal connection. Alex Young was born in South Africa’s wine country about a hundred miles from the only area in the world where rooibos grows, in an area where rooibos isn’t just an ingredient, it’s part of everyday life. It’s something you grow up with, something that carries a sense of place, tradition, and familiarity.
After moving to London and later settling in Chicago, that connection stayed with him. In a world that moves faster every day, Alex has always believed in slowing things down, taking the time to understand ingredients, refine process, and focus on craft.

It’s a philosophy Alex lives out personally, whether it’s roasting his own coffee, attempting to make the world’s hottest hot sauce, building his own bicycles or distilling his own gin.
Over time, it became clear there was an opportunity to bring something uniquely South African to a broader audience – reimagined through a modern lens. G&Tea was not created overnight, it’s the result of that journey. It brings together the depth and heritage of rooibos with the structure and clarity of a classic gin, creating something that reflects both where Alex comes from and where he is today. It’s a product shaped by different places, but grounded in a single idea: that better ingredients, thoughtfully combined, can create something truly distinctive.
